The press conference for the Suzhou WTA 125 was held at the newly opened Sungent International Tennis Center in Yangcheng Lake Peninsula Tourist Resort, SIP, on Sept 5. The tournament, the first international Class A tennis event at the venue, will feature 58 high-level matches beside the scenic Yangcheng Lake.
Qualifying rounds are scheduled from Sept 27 to 28, followed by the main draw matches from Sept 29 to Oct 5. The women’s singles and doubles finals will take place on the afternoon of Oct 5.
The tournament will bring together about 80 female players including those among the world’s top 100 players, such as Rebecca Sramkova (No.35), Tatjana Maria (No.42), and Marie Bouzkova (No.44), and emerging stars Lois Boisson (No.46) and Alexandra Eala (No.75). Notably, Chinese players including Yuan Yue, Zhang Shuai and Wang Xiyu will also compete in it.
In addition to the matches, a tennis carnival will be held for fans, alongside junior activities, lucky draws and the “Star of the Day” selections. Players will enjoy cultural experiences including visits to Suzhou Museum and an embroidery workshop, local cuisine, Kunqu opera (one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera) and cheongsam dressing.
