The Qian Yuqing Calligraphy Art Exhibition themed “Breeze over Xiangtian” opened at the art gallery of the School of Art of Soochow University on Sept 13, and will last till Oct 8. On display are over 130 calligraphy works by Qian Yuqing, a Suzhou-native calligrapher and adjunct professor at the school.
The exhibits, created by Qian in recent years, reflect the artist’s love for his hometown — Xiangtian, a village in former Weiting Town, which is now part of SIP’s Weiting Sub-district, highlighting the deep nostalgia in his artistic creation.
The works are diverse in size and style, featuring all five major styles of Chinese calligraphy, namely running, cursive, official, seal and regular scripts. Together, they demonstrate Qian’s mastery of traditional handwriting techniques and his innovative explorations in the art of calligraphy.
At the opening ceremony, the calligrapher presented a work he wrote to the art gallery of the School of Art of Soochow University.
