Last Saturday morning, the residential quarters and streets of SIP’s Jinji Lake Sub-district were bustling with volunteers in red vests, diligently tidying up irregularly parked bicycles, picking up litter and cleaning neglected corners.
This is a scene of the “SIP Cleanup Day” campaign, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month from July to join the efforts of local officials, community workers, residents and businesses to tackle waste and maintain a good environment.
The volunteer teams in various communities patrolled along riverbanks and green spaces. In Zhonghai Community, for example, the volunteers cleared away rotten leaves and waste packaging from the riverbanks and checked the conditions of water pumps and water quality.
In Linrui Community, a thorough cleanup covered green belts, fitness trails and the banks of No. 33 River.
Aoyun Community organized a tour along Xietang River, educating juveniles about rivers’ functions and the importance of protecting them from pollution.
The volunteers of International Waterfront Community patrolled the watercourse near the community, checking the water quality, drain outlets, vegetation on banks, embankments and riverside environment.
Statistics show that since July, Jinji Lake Sub-district has seen 171 cleanup activities held under the campaign, participated by over 1,500 volunteers. Their efforts have kept their communities tidy and clean.
