SIP Public Cultural Center, in partnership with Suzhou Metro, has launched the “New Reading Route” series of events recently, transforming metro stations into cultural spaces. From September to November, diverse events will be held at different metro stations to encourage reading and imparting knowledge among the public.
As Suzhou’s first child-friendly metro station, the Children’s Hospital Station of Suzhou Metro Line 6 will host a succession of children’s dramas including puppet shows and shadow puppetry adapted from classic picture books.
A DIY event was recently held at the Qiongjidun Station of Suzhou Metro Line 8, offering the participants a chance to learn to make Chinese-style handbags. It was the first of a variety of events scheduled at different metro stations over the next few months to disseminate traditional Chinese culture and handicrafts.
Concurrently, an exhibition is underway at the Qiongjidun Station, showing 120 cartoons drawn by Suzhou-native cartoonist A Tao.
Moreover, Suzhou Eslite Bookstore, Phoenix International Book Mall (Suzhou) and other bookstores are carrying out a stamp collection campaign. Visitors to these bookstores will receive stamps which can be collected and exchanged for blind boxes containing books.
