Viewed from the Jinshuiwan Trestle, the Jinji Station 06 is eye-catching. The giant sculpture of sailboat on its roof composes a beautiful picture with the boats dotted on the lake.
Chen Wangjun, chairman of Suzhou Baqi Sailing Club who initiated the LCR, said the biggest highlight of this year’s event was the use of the Jinji Station 06 as a venue of the event, which he believed provided both the contestants and the spectators a new experience.
Sailing is winning the favor of more and more people in Suzhou, a city deeply associated with water. The LCR organization has made consistent efforts in recent years to make the sport part of the local life. Sailing classes are offered to youngsters, and competitions held for them. Statistics show that, averagely, the number of youngsters joining sailing training increases by over 800 each year because of the LCR.
Moreover, the LCR offers both locals and tourists chances to experience sailing free of charge. During this year’s event, a night sailing was organized for this purpose.
“I was excited when participating in the event. When I sat in the boat and looked far away amid the autumn breeze, I was amazed by the skyscrapers, the beautiful scenery and wonderful nightlife of SIP. I hope I can live here forever, and do my bit in local development,” said Mr. Li, who has lived in SIP for half a year.
