The Suzhou branch of AU Optronics (AUO), a Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer, is a leader in SIP to implement the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategies for sustainable development.
AUO set up the Suzhou branch in SIP in 2001 to manufacture liquid crystal display panels of different sizes. This branch is one of the earliest companies in SIP to explore ESG-based development.
“We are using information and intelligent technologies to optimize our production and operations, and at the same time pay high attention to pursuing low-carbon development, fulfilling our social responsibilities and improving our internal management,” said General Manager Guo Zhenming who believed the core of ESG was sustainable development.
For environmental protection, the Suzhou branch of AUO has been running the “321 Action Plan” for many years for the purpose of saving water, electricity and gas and reducing the use of plastics and generation of waste.
AUO has joined the RE100, a global initiative bringing together the world’s most influential businesses committed to 100% renewable electricity. As a member of the group, the Suzhou branch is sparing no effort to accelerate the shift to renewable electricity.
In addition, the company announced last July to realize plastic neutrality, a sustainable practice that involves measuring and balancing an individual or organization’s plastic footprint by the removal and recovery of plastic waste from nature, and complemented by reductions in plastic use, by 2030.
On the other hand, the company has been striving to fulfil social responsibilities. It has been one of the “Most Socially Responsible Enterprises in SIP” for many years.
The company also has made remarkable achievements in improving its management by employing intelligent digital technologies and enhancing risk control and safety guarantee.
Moreover, the company is working with local authorities, other enterprises and research institutions to create an ecosystem featuring sustainable development. It is also joining efforts with tens of non-profit organizations to push forward a number of projects aimed at spreading the concept of sustainable development.
